The Punjab government has enforced a new ordinance introducing tough fines for traffic violations. Officials say it is one of the strictest traffic measures ever implemented in the province.
Speeding is no longer a minor offence. Motorcycle riders will face a fine of Rs2,000, while car drivers could pay Rs5,000 for exceeding limits.
Jumping red lights, commonly referred to as Signal Violations, now carries heavy penalties:
- Motorcycle: Rs2,000
- Three-wheeler: Rs3,000
- Car: Rs5,000
- 2000cc vehicles: Rs10,000
- Above 2000cc vehicles: Rs15,000
Authorities emphasized that Signal Violations are among the most dangerous traffic offenses. They said the fines aim to discourage reckless driving and save lives.
Overloading vehicles will also result in hefty fines:
- Three-wheeler: Rs3,000
- Vehicles under 2000cc: Rs5,000
- Vehicles above 2000cc: Rs10,000
- Trailer: Rs15,000
Transporters have called the ordinance a โtough blow,โ but officials argue that the measures were long overdue. Pollution-causing vehicles are now strictly penalized:
- Motorcycle: Rs2,000
- Three-wheeler: Rs3,000
- Large vehicles: Rs8,000
- Transport vehicles: Rs15,000
Authorities highlighted that smoke-emitting vehicles threaten public health. The fines are designed to encourage compliance and reduce air pollution.
The new regulations mark a significant step in reducing traffic hazards. Officials believe that strict enforcement of Signal Violations and other penalties will make Punjabโs roads safer for all commuters.
Traffic experts also said the ordinance will improve driver discipline and reduce accidents, particularly those caused by running red lights.
Motorists are advised to follow all traffic rules and avoid Signal Violations, as authorities have made it clear that enforcement will be strict and fines unavoidable.
