LHC Grants Bail to Underage Driver in Defence Crash, Killing 6 Family Members

A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), led by Justice Shehbaz Rizvi, granted bail to Afnan, a youth accused in a car accident that resulted in the deaths of six family members in the Defence area.

The bench made this decision after reviewing arguments from both sides. The defense attorney argued that the allegations against Afnan were not supported by the investigation, noting that geo-fencing data failed to place the cited witnesses at the accident scene and challenging the reliability of their statements.

The lawyer also highlighted that Afnan, as a minor according to the investigation report, had no direct link between witness statements and the charges, which should justify his bail.

Conversely, a law officer opposed the bail, citing substantial evidence of Afnan’s guilt and urging the court to deny the bail request.

The court initially reserved its decision but later granted bail to Afnan. The accident, which occurred on November 12 of the previous year, resulted in the deaths of six family members returning home from a visit.

The victims, who were traveling in two cars, were identified as Rukhsana (52), Anabia (3), four-month-old Huzaifa, Muhammad Hasnain (28), Sajjad (26), and Ayesha (22).
