The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has welcomed the appointment of Raisa Adil as the new Principal Information Officer (PIO) of the Press Information Department (PID). The organization expressed confidence that her leadership will strengthen cooperation between the government and the country’s print media.
In a statement, APNS President Senator Sarmad Ali and Secretary General Muhammad Athar Kazi congratulated Raisa Adil on assuming the important position. They expressed hope that she would continue to support press freedom and work closely with media organizations to address the challenges facing Pakistan’s newspaper industry.
The APNS leadership said they expect Raisa Adil to protect and safeguard the freedom of the press during her tenure. They also hoped she would take practical steps to resolve long-standing issues affecting the print media sector and maintain a positive working relationship between the Press Information Department, the government, and newspaper publishers.
According to the society, cooperation between the government and the print media remains essential for ensuring the smooth flow of information and supporting responsible journalism. APNS said it looks forward to constructive engagement with the new Principal Information Officer in the coming months.
The organization also paid tribute to the outgoing Principal Information Officer, Mobishir Hassan. APNS office-bearers acknowledged his services and appreciated the cooperation and support he extended to the print media during his tenure. They thanked him for maintaining a professional relationship with newspaper organizations and assisting the industry whenever possible.
At the same time, APNS highlighted several issues that continue to affect the newspaper sector. The society urged the new leadership to address pending matters that are important for the financial stability of print media organizations.
Among the key concerns raised by APNS is the implementation of the already approved increase in government advertising rates. The society also called for an increase in the volume of government advertisements allocated to newspapers.
Another major issue is the payment of long-outstanding dues owed to newspaper organizations. APNS said timely payments would help media houses overcome financial difficulties and improve liquidity in the print media industry.
The organization believes resolving these issues would strengthen Pakistan’s newspaper sector and enable publishers to continue providing quality journalism to readers across the country.
A day before the APNS statement, the federal government transferred Raisa Adil, a BS-20 officer of the Information Group, and appointed her as the new Principal Information Officer. The appointment is part of the government’s administrative changes within the information sector.
The APNS expressed optimism that the new PIO will continue to promote cooperation between the government and the media while addressing the concerns of newspaper publishers. The society also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Press Information Department on matters related to the development of Pakistan’s print media.
