Ramazan Moon Likely to Be Sighted on February 18 Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, February 10, 2026 โ€“ The Ramazan moon is expected to be sighted on Wednesday, February 18, as weather conditions remain favorable across most parts of Pakistan, the Meteorological Department said.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), astronomical calculations indicate a fair chance of sighting the new moon of Ramazan 1447 AH on the evening of February 18. This would mark 29 Shaban 1447 AH in the Islamic calendar.

The birth of the Ramazan moon is predicted to occur on February 17 at 5:01 pm. Clear or partly cloudy skies on February 18 will improve visibility for moon observers. The PMD also shared last sighting times for different regions: 6:58 pm in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 7:47 pm in Balochistan, 7:24 pm in Sindh, 7:13 pm in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 7:08 pm in Punjab, and 6:53 pm in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Earlier predictions suggested that Ramazan may begin on February 19, with Eidul Fitr expected on March 21. Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council Secretary General Khalid Ijaz Mufti said the crescent marking the start of Ramazan is likely to be sighted on February 18, based on moon visibility and birth timings.

He added that these forecasts are based on astronomical calculations and should not be considered final. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has the sole authority to officially declare the start of Ramazan after verifying moon sighting testimonies.

The Holy Month of Ramazan holds deep spiritual importance for Muslims worldwide. Observers fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food and drink. Ramazan is also a time for increased prayer, reflection, charity, and community engagement. The month concludes with the celebration of Eidul Fitr, marking the end of fasting.
