Rawalpindi Set for Major Road Upgrades to Ease Traffic Pressure

Rawalpindi is set to receive several major road infrastructure developments aimed at improving traffic flow. The new projects are part of efforts to expand the cityโ€™s signal-free corridor network.

Authorities said the goal is to reduce congestion in busy urban areas. The plan is expected to improve travel time across key routes in the region. These upgrades are especially important for daily commuters in Rawalpindi.

According to officials, three new underpasses will be built on Peshawar Road. These will be located at Qasim Market Chowk, Qabristan Chowk, and Charing Cross Chowk. The projects aim to make traffic movement smoother and safer.

Once completed, a fully signal-free corridor will connect Maraka-e-Haq Square to Motorway Chowk. This will improve access towards Islamabad Airport, Peshawar, Lahore, and the Hazara Motorway. It will also support better regional connectivity for Rawalpindi.

Authorities believe the new system will significantly reduce traffic delays. Officials expect more than 200,000 vehicles to use the corridor daily after completion.

Rawalpindi is also included in additional planned infrastructure works. These include an underpass at AFIC Chowk and a flyover at Ammar Shaheed Chowk. Another underpass is planned at Ninth Avenue, linking Double Road with Islamabad.

These projects are designed to modernize road networks in the twin cities. They also aim to manage the growing number of vehicles on major routes.

Officials said the improvements are part of broader urban planning efforts. The focus is on making travel faster and more efficient in Rawalpindi and surrounding areas.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently inaugurated the Maraka-e-Haq Square project. It includes flyovers, underpasses, and pedestrian bridges. The project is expected to support better traffic management in Rawalpindi.

Authorities added that development work will continue in phases. The aim is to create a smoother and more organized transport system for the city.
