RAWALPINDI: Police have arrested a robber involved in assaulting and firing at a girl during a robbery attempt in Rawalpindi, officials said on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Sabeel and reportedly from Kashmir, was traced after police reviewed CCTV footage of the incident. SSP Operations Tariq Mehboob led the team that secured the arrest.
According to police, a case had earlier been registered at Waris Khan police station based on the complaint of the victim. CCTV footage, which later went viral, showed the robber trying to snatch the girl’s bag. When she resisted, he assaulted her and fired a shot before fleeing.
Despite the attack, the girl bravely resisted the robber and chased him briefly as he escaped. The incident occurred while she was returning home from shopping at Commercial Market, in a street near her residence.
Following the circulation of the footage on social media, teams from the Crime Control Department (CCD) joined efforts to locate the suspect. Their coordinated investigation led to Sabeel’s arrest.
Police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to determine if the robber was involved in other criminal activities in the area. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
The incident has sparked public concern about street safety, especially for women traveling alone. Police say they are increasing patrolling in commercial and residential areas to prevent similar incidents.
Officials emphasized the importance of CCTV cameras in tracking criminals, noting that quick action helped capture the robber before he could harm more people.
