ISLAMABAD: Sanaullah rejects allegations of rigging in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections and has urged political parties to accept the election outcome instead of calling it fraudulent.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah said some political groups began making rigging allegations from the morning of polling day. He said such claims should not be made without evidence and that electoral defeat should not be described as fraud.
According to Rana Sanaullah, the overall election process remained peaceful. He said the results of the AJK elections were now clear, and all parties should respect the public’s decision.
During the media briefing, Sanaullah rejects claims that the election was manipulated. He stated that isolated incidents should not be used to question the credibility of the entire electoral process.
He referred to three incidents that occurred during polling. The adviser said one incident involved Acting President Latif Akbar, who had gone to his polling station to cast his vote. He explained that an argument with a family later became the subject of reports claiming there had been an attempted murder.
Rana Sanaullah said the incident had been presented in a misleading manner. He maintained that the facts did not support the serious allegations circulating after the disagreement.
He also discussed another incident involving a man identified as Mushtaq Shah. Initial reports claimed the man had been murdered during the election process.
However, Rana Sanaullah said medical information showed that Mushtaq Shah died from a heart attack. He added that the emotional stress and shock of the situation may have contributed to his condition.
The adviser praised the government’s efforts to maintain peace throughout the polling process. He said the prime minister had taken steps to ensure that voting remained free from large-scale violence.
Rana Sanaullah also criticized Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He claimed that people around Bilawal were providing incorrect information, which led to misleading public statements about the election.
He referred to comments made by PPP leaders who described the election as a “Gullu Butt election.” Rana Sanaullah questioned why members of the National Assembly from Sindh were present in Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the polls.
He explained that his own party had also assigned duties to its National Assembly members. However, he said they had been instructed not to enter polling stations and to remain only at designated polling camps.
The adviser acknowledged that there was fear and tension in Muzaffarabad during the day. Despite this, he said voters continued to participate in the democratic process and cast their ballots.
He further claimed that the election concluded without major violence. According to him, the only reported gunfire came from the gunmen of the opposing side.
