Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah spoke to the media in Sanghar regarding the recent Gul Plaza tragedy. He confirmed that he has written to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, requesting a judicial inquiry into the incident.
The court has asked for the terms of reference (ToRs) for the investigation. Murad Ali Shah assured that the Sindh government would fully support the victims and their families.
The chief minister announced that families of those who lost their lives in the Gul Plaza incident will each receive Rs10 million. Additionally, affected traders are being provided immediate financial assistance of Rs500,000 to help restore their businesses.
Murad Ali Shah said that all impacted shopkeepers would be provided with newly constructed shops at Gul Plaza within the next two years. He emphasized the government’s commitment to rehabilitation and long-term support.
Addressing political discussions, Murad Ali Shah responded to calls for Karachi to be handed over to the federal government. He said that such a step would first require a constitutional amendment, highlighting that it is not a simple administrative decision.
Commenting on the same issue, Prime Minister Coordinator for Information on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Affairs, Ikhtiar Wali Khan, stated that a federal takeover of Karachi is not practically feasible. He explained that Governor’s Rule is imposed only when provincial conditions deteriorate, which is not currently the case in Karachi.
Wali Khan added that political developments, including any actions by Shahbaz Sharif, will unfold over time. He also noted that fire incidents, like the one at Gul Plaza, can happen worldwide, but the key is how governments respond and fulfill their responsibilities after such emergencies.
