Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar on Wednesday announced a โmassiveโ operation targeting riverine dacoits in the Katcha areas of Sindh. Speaking in Sukkur, he said the provincial government is committed to addressing social issues Pakistan faces due to high criminal activity in these regions.
Lanjar stated that a meeting was held to finalize the operation. โWe are definitely heading towards a massive operation,โ he told reporters. He added that all available resources would be used to take strict action against notorious criminals frequently highlighted on social media.
The operation is expected to begin immediately. The Sindh Home Minister emphasized that dacoits would have a chance to surrender before the courts. However, those who continue criminal activities would face decisive action. โThere will be a fight, and they will get their just deserts,โ he warned.
Appreciating support from the Punjab government, Lanjar highlighted the success of a previous operation in clearing no-go Katcha areas. Regarding army involvement, the Sindh Home Minister said the Sindh police, along with the Rangers, are capable of handling the operation.
The Katcha areas, including districts such as Kashmore, Ghotki, Shikarpur, and Jacobabad, are notorious for crimes like dacoity, kidnappings for ransom, and tribal disputes. Lanjar assured that modern equipment would be provided to law enforcement personnel to ensure the operationโs effectiveness.
When asked about the use of drones by dacoits, he stated that authorities are acting against facilitators and that drones have not yet become a major factor. On the possibility of a joint operation with Punjab police, Lanjar said discussions have been directed with Punjab officials to coordinate action, especially in areas like Machka, which span both provinces.
The Sindh Home Minister also addressed tribal disputes, confirming that contacts have been made regarding clashes such as the Jatoi-Mahar conflict. He emphasized that tackling social issues Pakistan faces in these regions is a priority, combining law enforcement action with conflict resolution efforts.
Lanjar expressed confidence that the combined measures would effectively curb crime in the Katcha areas. โI have strong hopes that we will wipe out these dacoits,โ he said, underscoring the provinceโs commitment to restoring security.
