Six Terrorists Killed in CTD and Police Operation in Kohat

At least six terrorists killed during a joint security operation in Kohat on Sunday, officials confirmed. The operation was conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department and local police after receiving intelligence reports.

Authorities said the suspects were hiding in different areas of Lachi. Intelligence agencies warned that the militants were planning a major attack in the region. Security forces quickly launched a search and strike operation to stop the threat.

According to Kohat District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi, a large number of CTD officers and police personnel participated in the operation. Security forces surrounded several suspected locations during the early phase of the mission.

Officials said the suspects opened fire when they saw the security teams approaching. Police and CTD officers returned fire, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire. During the clash, six terrorists killed at the scene.

Security officials also recovered weapons and ammunition from the militants. The police said the area was immediately sealed after the encounter. A search operation is still ongoing to ensure no other militants remain in the area.

The incident comes amid rising security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces have been carrying out frequent operations against militant groups in several districts.

Just a day earlier, another operation was conducted in Lakki Marwat. During that intelligence-based mission, six terrorists killed by CTD officials.

The Lakki Marwat operation followed a deadly attack on police officers. On Friday, militants targeted a police vehicle with an improvised explosive device. The blast killed seven police personnel, including the station house officer of Shadi Khel police station.

Security experts say militant violence has been increasing in Pakistan in recent years. According to Armed Conflict Location & Event Data, the number of attacks has risen sharply since 2022.

The data shows that attacks across Pakistan increased from 658 in 2022 to more than 2,400 in 2025. Attacks linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have also grown significantly during this period.

The Pakistani government has repeatedly raised concerns about militant safe havens across the border in Afghanistan. Officials say these groups use Afghan territory to plan and launch attacks inside Pakistan.

The recent operations highlight the ongoing efforts by security forces to control the threat. Authorities say intelligence-based operations will continue to prevent further attacks.
