The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has issued an ultimatum to the government, setting August 29 as the deadline for the withdrawal of the recent electricity price hike.
During a press conference on Saturday, RCCI President Saqib Rafiq conveyed that if the increase in electricity rates is not reversed, traders will stage a protest rally from the chamber to Kachehri Chowk.
Rafiq emphasized that the existing electricity price makes it challenging for traders to compete in the global market. He noted that conducting business under the current circumstances has become untenable, resulting in the closure of many enterprises.

He urged the government to prioritize the exploration of alternative energy sources to offer cost-effective electricity solutions and create a favorable investment atmosphere conducive to tax collection.
The RCCI president underlined the urgency of addressing pressing issues such as escalating interest rates, the volatile US dollar situation, surging fuel costs, elevated gas and power tariffs, and unrelenting food inflation.
These concerns, he asserted, require immediate attention and action from the government to ensure a more stable economic environment.
