Weather Update: Rain, Strong Winds, and Hailstorms Expected Starting May 27

The Met Office has forecasted that strong western weather systems will affect various regions of Pakistan from May 27 to June 1, 2025, bringing rain, thunderstorms, powerful winds, and the possibility of hailstorms.

In response, the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) under the NDMA has issued a weather alert based on expected impacts.

Islamabad is likely to face heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. In Punjab, severe weather conditions are expected in cities including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Okara, and Kasur.

Southern Punjab areas such as Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Muzaffargarh may experience moderate rain and gusty winds between May 27 and 29.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see thunderstorms and strong winds impacting districts including Swat, Dir, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Chitral, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Charsadda, Hangu, D.I. Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Waziristan during the same period.

In Balochistan, rain and thunderstorms are expected to affect Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbela, Mastung, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, and Awaran from May 27 to 29.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir will likely face heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and possible landslides in areas including Diamer, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghanche, Shigar, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur from May 27 through June 1.

Sindh is expected to experience hot and dry weather with no significant rain forecasted from May 27 to 29.

The NDMA has urged provincial and district authorities to stay alert, prepare emergency responses, and coordinate closely with local teams to ensure timely action. The agency will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as needed.

The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly or flood-prone areas, secure vulnerable structures like trees, power lines, and solar panels, and park vehicles in safe, covered spots. Farmers should take steps to protect crops from hail and strong winds, while travelers and tourists should exercise caution during outdoor and mountain activities.
