ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the political and constitutional crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He blamed the party’s provincial leadership for the circumstances that led to the imposition of an emergency in the province.
Speaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Bilawal discussed the emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the federal government had tried to resolve the situation through political dialogue before taking the extraordinary step.
According to Bilawal, the government had made several efforts to reach a political and constitutional agreement with the opposition. However, these efforts did not produce the desired outcome.
He described the imposition of an emergency as a last resort. He also referred to Article 232 of the Constitution, which provides for the proclamation of an emergency under extraordinary circumstances.
Bilawal Criticises PTI Leadership
Bilawal said the federal government had not wanted to introduce such a strict political and constitutional measure. He maintained that the government had explored different options before proceeding with emergency rule.
The PPP chairman also raised concerns about the provincial government’s cooperation in addressing terrorism. He said the federal government believed that the KP administration was not providing sufficient support in counterterrorism efforts.
Bilawal argued that the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had become difficult for the provincial government to handle independently. He stressed the need for cooperation to address the security challenges facing the province.
Blaming PTI for the political developments, Bilawal said the party’s own decisions had contributed to the current crisis. He accused its provincial leadership of creating circumstances that eventually led to the emergency.
He further criticised the opposition for holding the federal government and the president responsible for the situation. According to Bilawal, PTI should also acknowledge its role in the political and constitutional developments.
He maintained that the party could not shift all responsibility to other political actors. He reiterated that the federal government had initially sought a political solution rather than emergency rule.
Faisal Vawda Says PTI Has Lost Political Direction
Earlier, Senator Faisal Vawda also criticised PTI while commenting on the latest political developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Vawda claimed that the party had fallen apart. He also said its political show was over and urged its leaders to consider other political options.
Vawda suggested that PTI leaders should establish a new political party or join another political platform. He said they should focus on serving the country.
The senator also criticised the PTI-led provincial government and discussed the political situation surrounding the emergency and Governor’s Rule.
His remarks came amid growing political debate over the federal government’s decision concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
