RAWALPINDI – PTI founder Imran Khan has been moved back to Adiala Jail. This came after a medical check-up at Shifa International Hospital, according to reports.
Khan was taken to the hospital late at night. He returned to the prison under tight security. He has now been placed back in his cell.
Officials said Khan reached Shifa International around midnight. A team of six specialist doctors was set to examine him. Their assessment would decide if he needed hospital admission.
After the check-up, doctors sent Khan back to Adiala Jail. He remains in custody there.
Security across Islamabad had been tightened the night before. Authorities prepared for Khan’s possible transfer. Several roads near the hospital were closed. Police set up barriers along major routes. Extra personnel were deployed around the facility. Media vehicles were also removed from the area.
This heightened alert followed a Supreme Court order. On August 18, a three-member bench directed that Khan be moved for treatment. The court said he should stay under care until the next hearing on September 16.
The court allowed Khan’s personal doctor, Dr Faisal Sultan, to assist in his treatment. His sister, Dr Uzma Khan, can also be involved. Family members may visit him once a week.
Judges ordered a medical board be formed. It includes a physician, surgeon, internal medicine expert, eye specialist, and heart doctor. Khan or his family will pay for the treatment.
The court also asked for Khan’s full medical history. Reports show he had 39 medical exams since November 2023.
This case has caused tension between the government and judiciary. The federal government challenged the court’s order. Officials argue that prison medical rules should apply. They warned the ruling could affect other inmates too.
The government’s review petition was returned by the registrar’s office. Officials must fix objections before resubmitting it

During hearings, the court raised concerns about privacy of Khan’s medical records. It also questioned treatment costs. His lawyer confirmed the family would cover expenses. The court further sought details on Khan’s family meetings over the past three years.
