In Islamabad, the opposition party PTI has decided to challenge the recent amendment to the Election Act in the Supreme Court. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar criticized the government and sarcastically suggested that Shehbaz Sharif should consult Sheikh Hasina on fleeing the country. He warned that the government might face a similar fate as Hasina Wajid if they don’t properly address the political party’s concerns.
PTI’s stance comes after PML-N lawmaker Bilal Azhar Kiyani introduced a bill in the National Assembly proposing amendments to the Elections Act 2017, aiming to prevent lawmakers from switching party affiliations later. The opposition’s protest led to a disruption in the assembly.

The legislation follows a Supreme Court ruling that granted reserved seats to PTI, contradicting a previous decision by the Peshawar High Court and dealing a setback to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s coalition. The ruling was made by a 13-member bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, with a split decision.
