Why is #BoycottPSL Trending on X?

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) made headlines recently by announcing KFC as its snack partner, sparking a wave of controversy and the emergence of the #BoycottPSL trend on social media. This decision drew criticism from Pakistani fans, who expressed their dissent amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

KFC, owned by Yum! Brands, which also owns Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and The Habit Burger Grill, has faced scrutiny due to its parent company’s subsidiaries allegedly providing free food to Israeli soldiers involved in brutalities against Palestinians. Given Pakistan’s strong sentiment towards the Israel-Palestine conflict, the partnership with KFC was met with backlash on platforms like Twitter.

While some fans urged for a balanced approach, acknowledging the economic benefits KFC brings to Pakistan, others deemed the partnership hypocritical in light of the ongoing crisis. Despite the controversy, PSL also announced other sponsors for the upcoming season, including TikTok, Osaka Batteries, and Tapal Danedar, alongside KFC.

Amidst the social media storm, the Pakistan Super League is set to kick off with an exciting match between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United at Gaddafi Stadium tonight at 7:00 pm. The star-studded opening ceremony, featuring performances by renowned artists such as Ali Zafar, Aima Baig, Arif Lohar, and Noori, is scheduled for 6:30 pm, promising a captivating start to the tournament.
