Aaqib Javed Confident Ahead of Pakistan’s ODI Series Against New Zealand

Pakistan’s head coach Aaqib Javed expressed optimism as his team prepares to face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series, starting Friday in Napier. Javed emphasized the advantage of New Zealand’s seaming conditions and placed confidence in Pakistan’s fast bowlers to make an impact.

Acknowledging the team’s struggles on flat pitches in the Champions Trophy, Javed pointed out that New Zealand’s conditions are more suited to Pakistan’s strengths. “The pitches here are similar to Australia and South Africa, where our fast bowlers dominated. If we can restrict them under 200, our experienced batting lineup, led by Babar [Azam] and Rizwan, should secure good results,” he said.

Javed also highlighted the retention of Haris Rauf as a key factor in Pakistan’s bowling attack, considering his successful performances in similar conditions. He reiterated the stability of the team’s ODI structure despite concerns after the Champions Trophy.

The coach expressed confidence in the team’s white-ball future, especially with major tournaments like the Asia Cup and World Cup approaching, adding that youngsters in the T20 format will further develop through opportunities like the PSL.

The first ODI kicks off at 11 AM local time in Napier (3 AM Pakistan time) on Saturday, 29 March.
