Ben Stokes Ruled Out of First Test Against Pakistan

Ben Stokes

England’s Test captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the first Test in the three-match series against Pakistan, which kicks off on October 7 in Multan. Stokes has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury he sustained in August, which has prevented him from returning to full fitness.

In Stokes’ absence, Ollie Pope, England’s vice-captain, will lead the team. Pope previously filled in during England’s recent 2-1 series win against Sri Lanka and will continue his captaincy duties for the opening match against Pakistan.

Although Stokes traveled with the squad and took part in training sessions, England’s management decided to rest him after it became evident that he hadn’t fully recovered. The injury, initially suffered while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on August 11, has kept him out since, making this a significant blow for the English side.

Despite Stokes’ absence, England will field a strong lineup, featuring key players like Joe Root, Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Harry Brook. Pakistan, meanwhile, will be looking to regain form as they face a determined English team.
