The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed dissatisfaction with Fakhar Zaman’s public comments regarding the selection panel’s decision to rest former captain Babar Azam for the upcoming two-Test series against England. Zaman took to social media to question the reasoning behind Babar’s exclusion, igniting internal discontent within the PCB.
According to a PCB source, senior officials were not pleased with Zaman’s remarks. “The top board officials are not happy with the tweet sent out by Fakhar, and relevant persons are having a word with him about it,” the source revealed. Zaman had compared Babar’s situation to that of India’s Virat Kohli, who remained in the team despite struggling with form between 2020 and 2023.

Zaman argued, “If we are considering sidelining our premier batsman, arguably the best Pakistan has ever produced, it could send a deeply negative message across the team.” He emphasized the importance of safeguarding key players rather than undermining them.
The PCB has confirmed that one of the new selectors, former captain Azhar Ali, discussed the decision with Babar, assuring him that he remains integral to Pakistan cricket’s future. Selector Aqib Javed also addressed the challenges the panel faced, noting that the decision was made in the best interest of Pakistan cricket and its demanding schedule.
Following a heavy defeat to England in the first Test, Pakistan will look to bounce back in the second Test, scheduled for October 15 in Multan. The updated squad includes Shan Masood (C), Saud Shakeel (VC), and several uncapped players, highlighting the selectors’ focus on future planning.
