Indian Wrestler Antim Panghal and Team Deported From Paris Olympics

Indian wrestler Antim Panghal and her staff have been deported from the Paris Olympics 2024 due to disciplinary issues, according to an official statement from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) released on Wednesday.

This incident comes on the heels of another setback for Indian women’s wrestling, as Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the finals for exceeding the weight limit by 100 grams, missing out on a medal opportunity.

Panghal’s deportation occurred after French authorities reported a breach of conduct. Instead of going to the Games Village, Panghal stayed at a hotel with her coach, Bhagat Singh, and sparring partner, Vikas.

Her sister was caught impersonating her while retrieving Panghal’s belongings and was questioned by police.

Additionally, Panghal’s support staff reportedly had a dispute with a cab driver, which led to police involvement. Vikas has denied the allegations, claiming Panghal and her sister are present with him.
