Is Babar Azam Close to Losing White-Ball Captaincy?

Babar Azam’s position as Pakistan’s white-ball captain is reportedly under review, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) possibly not retaining him for the upcoming Champions One Day Cup. This has sparked speculation about his future in leading the limited-overs side.

Sources suggest that PCB is considering a new white-ball captain ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Australia, with Mohammad Rizwan, the current vice-captain, as a strong candidate for the role. Rizwan could be promoted to lead the side, marking a significant shift in the team’s leadership structure.

White-ball head coach Gary Kirsten has reportedly had discussions with Babar and PCB officials about the captaincy earlier this year. Rizwan’s potential promotion has been a topic of these conversations.

If Rizwan assumes the role, he might also be considered for captaincy across all three formats, positioning him as a key leader in Pakistan’s future cricketing plans.
