Pakistan’s preparations for the first ODI against New Zealand in Napier took place indoors on Friday, as rain disrupted their practice plans. The squad held an optional training session, with batters, including captain Muhammad Rizwan, focusing on throwdowns in the nets. Rizwan also went through wicketkeeping drills, while star batter Babar Azam engaged in warm-up exercises to stay match-ready.
Young left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem was seen honing his bowling skills during the session. Muqeem, who had a brief stint in the T20I series, is being considered for a potential role in the ODI matches. His inclusion in the squad has sparked interest following his two-wicket performance in the fifth T20I against New Zealand.

T20I captain Salman Ali Agha also participated in the training alongside the younger players, preparing for the upcoming challenge in the ODI series. This will mark Pakistan’s first ODI series since their appearance in the ICC Champions Trophy, where they faced criticism for underperforming.
Head coach Aaqib Javed, however, expressed confidence in the experienced ODI squad, hoping for positive results in the three-match series, which kicks off on Saturday at 11 AM local time.
