Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has called on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to introduce a new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise representing Rawalpindi, named “Pindi Express.” The name pays tribute to Akhtar’s iconic nickname and the city’s rich cricketing history.
Speaking during a PSL-related discussion, Akhtar said it was only fitting that Rawalpindi, known for producing world-class fast bowlers, should have its own team. He referenced players like Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf as part of the city’s strong legacy in pace bowling.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has already proven its value in the PSL, regularly hosting high-scoring games and attracting large crowds. Akhtar believes a dedicated franchise would further elevate the city’s presence in Pakistan’s cricketing scene.
The proposal comes as PSL officials hint at possible expansion for the tournament’s 11th edition next year. According to PSL COO Salman Naseer, two new teams may be added by the end of 2025, opening doors for new cities to be represented.
