Younis Khan Supports Babar Azam as Pakistan Captain

Pakistan cricket legend Younis Khan has strongly endorsed Babar Azam to continue as the national team’s captain despite recent scrutiny following Pakistan’s poor performance in international tournaments, including an early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024.

In a local news interview, Khan attributed Pakistan’s cricket issues to systemic problems rather than individual players, highlighting a lack of development for backup players and viable alternatives for key roles. He argued that the criticism of Babar Azam’s captaincy is misplaced, noting that the real issue lies in the failure to build bench strength over the years.

Khan also criticized the frequent changes in leadership, including rapid turnovers of PCB chairmen and government officials, which he believes disrupt long-term planning necessary for success. The PCB is currently reviewing the team’s leadership, with Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and former cricketers involved in discussions about Babar Azam’s future as captain.
