Blessing Muzarabani has responded strongly after being banned from the next two editions of the Pakistan Super League, stating that he never signed a formal contract and therefore could not have violated any agreement. The Zimbabwe pacer was initially expected to join Islamabad United for PSL 11 but later withdrew and signed with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League as a replacement player.
In a statement released by his representatives, the player’s camp revealed they had remained silent for several weeks to avoid escalating tensions. However, increasing criticism on social media pushed them to clarify their position. According to the statement, Muzarabani had reached a preliminary agreement with Islamabad United on February 13, but it was conditional upon receiving a No Objection Certificate from Zimbabwe Cricket. His camp argued that such clearance could not proceed without a formal contract being issued by the franchise or league authorities.
They further stated that no contract was provided even by February 27, leaving the deal incomplete. Around the same time, the fast bowler received an offer from Kolkata Knight Riders, which he accepted. His representatives stressed that Muzarabani was neither officially drafted nor signed under a binding employment agreement in the PSL, making the accusation of breach invalid. They insisted that a player cannot violate terms that were never formally finalized.
The statement also criticized the two-year ban, calling it excessive compared to previous disciplinary actions in similar cases. The camp urged the PSL to reconsider and withdraw the decision, describing the situation as an administrative oversight rather than intentional misconduct by the player. Additionally, they condemned the online abuse directed at Muzarabani, saying the backlash had crossed reasonable limits.
The 29-year-old pacer has so far appeared in only two matches for Kolkata Knight Riders after joining as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. The controversy continues to raise questions about contractual clarity and communication within franchise leagues.
