Elon Musk AI startup, xAI, launched the beta version of its latest AI assistant, Grok-2, on Wednesday. This new tool for generating images competes with existing technologies like OpenAI’s DALL-E and Google’s Gemini.
Grok-2 stands out by imposing fewer restrictions on the types of images it can produce. Unlike its rivals, it allows the creation of images featuring political figures and copyrighted brands, offering more flexibility in its outputs.

Grok-2 and its smaller version, Grok-2 mini, are accessible to X users who hold ‘Premium’ or ‘Premium+’ subscriptions. This new model enhances its predecessor, Grok 1.5, with better text and image generation abilities.
Initial users of Grok-2 have created images featuring notable political figures, such as former US President Donald Trump holding firearms and Vice President Kamala Harris dressed in military gear.
Grok-2 has also been used to generate images of famous brands and copyrighted characters, including The Simpsons and Tom and Jerry, raising concerns about the model’s limited restrictions.
Elon Musk has promoted Grok as a more lenient option compared to current AI tools, criticizing OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini for their alleged biases.
The launch of Grok-2 highlights xAI’s commitment to offering a more flexible AI experience for its users.
