Minister of State for Interior, Shaza Fatima, defended the government’s decision to block X (formerly Twitter), stating it was a measure taken in line with national security concerns. She emphasized that the move was not an infringement on freedom of expression, pointing out that less than 2 percent of Pakistan’s population uses the platform.
Fatima also addressed the growing concern of cyber threats in the country, calling for enhanced cybersecurity measures to safeguard Pakistan’s digital landscape. She reassured that platforms like YouTube and Facebook remain unaffected, ensuring continued freedom of expression.

Highlighting the importance of Pakistan’s IT industry, Fatima clarified that the blocking of X does not harm the sector, which continues to thrive with record IT exports and a strong broadband industry.
The Minister concluded by emphasizing the government’s commitment to securing the country’s digital space and ensuring the safety of foreign dignitaries, reaffirming that national security remains a top priority.
