Snapchat is rolling out its new “Footsteps” feature to all iOS users this week, following an initial launch for Snapchat+ subscribers. This feature leverages Snap Map to track users’ travels and visually represent how much of the world they’ve explored.
When users first activate Footsteps, the feature pulls data from their saved Snaps in Memories to assess previous travel activity. After that, it utilizes real-time location data to create personalized travel footprints on the map.

To enable Footsteps, users must turn off Ghost Mode on Snap Map. While the feature is private by default—meaning only the user can see their tracked movements—it allows users to disable tracking or delete their travel data anytime through their profile settings.
This enhancement of Snap Map distinguishes Snapchat from competitors like Instagram and TikTok, which currently do not offer a similar feature. However, Instagram has announced plans for a “Friends Map.” Snapchat has also confirmed that Footsteps will soon be available for Android users.
