Atishi Singh About to Become India’s Second Woman Chief Minister

Atishi Marlena Singh has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced on Tuesday.

Kejriwal resigned after recently securing bail in a corruption case, stating he needed a new electoral mandate to prove his integrity and has proposed moving Delhi’s election up to November from February 2025.

Atishi Singh, the only female minister in Delhi’s cabinet, has previously managed key portfolios such as finance and education. A prominent member of AAP since 2013, she played a significant role in Delhi’s education sector and won the Kalkaji constituency in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections.

Singh holds degrees from Delhi University and Oxford University and is a Chevening scholar.

Kejriwal’s resignation, amid allegations he claims are politically motivated, allows Atishi to assume the role of Delhi’s chief minister.

She is set to take the oath later today at 4:30 pm. Singh’s new role marks a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape as she continues her work in education and governance.
