DUBAI โ Etihad Airways has resumed limited flight operations after suspending services due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The airline confirmed the update on Monday as regional airspace closures disrupted global travel.
The recent conflict between Israel, the United States, and Iran forced several countries to shut down their airspace. Major airports, including Dubai and Doha, were temporarily affected. This led to widespread cancellations and delays across the region.
In a statement, Etihad Airways said that only select flights are currently operating. These include repositioning, cargo, and repatriation services. The airline noted that these flights are running in coordination with UAE authorities. All operations are subject to strict safety and operational approvals.
Despite the partial resumption, all scheduled commercial passenger flights to and from Abu Dhabi remain cancelled for now. Earlier, the airline had announced that regular services would be suspended until 10:00 GMT on Tuesday.
According to the airlineโs website, several flights departed from Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi on Monday. Destinations included London, Paris, Moscow, and Amsterdam. Additional flights were scheduled to cities such as Jeddah and Kochi.
However, Etihad Airways did not clarify which specific routes were being used for repatriation purposes. Thousands of travelers have been stranded due to the ongoing crisis, prompting airlines to adjust schedules and reroute flights.
The disruption has affected not only regional carriers but also major international airlines. Many airlines are closely monitoring the situation and making operational changes as needed.
The ongoing conflict has created uncertainty in global aviation. Airlines are focusing on passenger safety while trying to restore services gradually. Etihad Airways emphasized that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority.
