Rising fuel prices are putting pressure on American households as the Iran war disrupts global oil supplies. A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that many people are already feeling the financial impact.
According to the survey, 55% of respondents said their household finances have been affected by higher gasoline prices. Among them, 21% reported a strong impact on their daily expenses. The Iran war has played a major role in pushing fuel costs higher.
Gasoline prices in the United States have increased by nearly one dollar per gallon since late February. This rise began after military strikes involving the United States and Israel targeted Iran. In response, Iran launched counterattacks on energy facilities linked to US allies.
The situation worsened when Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz. This key route carries about one-fifth of the worldโs oil supply. The disruption has caused global concern and contributed to rising fuel prices.
The ongoing Iran war has also raised fears of further economic instability. Reports suggest that the US administration is considering sending more troops to protect oil shipments. Some officials warned this could involve operations near Iranโs coastline.
Public concern about rising fuel costs remains high. Around 87% of Americans believe gas prices will continue to increase in the coming weeks. Many also expect the Iran war to lead to deeper US military involvement, though support for such actions is limited.
Donald Trump, who returned to office last year, had promised to improve the economy. He previously described the country as entering a โgolden age.โ However, recent price increases have challenged that view.
Trump recently acknowledged the situation, linking economic pressure to the Iran war. He stated that the decision to act was difficult but necessary due to developments in Iran.
The rising cost of living has become a major political issue. About 63% of Americans disapprove of Trumpโs handling of living costs. Only 29% currently support his performance on this issue.
The poll also found that just 35% of respondents believe the administration is managing the economy well. Many voters say the cost of living will be the most important factor in upcoming elections.
