Israeli Strikes Kill Five People in Gaza Despite Ongoing Ceasefire

Jerusalem: Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed five people on Tuesday, according to Palestinian sources. The victims included a Hamas commander and a nine-year-old boy.

The latest attacks highlight continued violence in Gaza, despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October. While the truce reduced large-scale fighting, both Israel and Hamas continue to accuse each other of violating the agreement.

According to Gazaโ€™s civil defence agency, four people were killed and six others were injured after an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a vehicle in the Al-Rimal area of Gaza City.

A security source in Gaza identified two of the victims as Hamas commander Iyad al-Shanbari and his son, Salah. The source did not reveal the identities of the other two victims. Hamas had not issued an immediate response following the incident.

In a separate strike, a nine-year-old boy, identified as Adel al-Najjar, was killed in eastern Khan Yunis. Gazaโ€™s civil defence agency said the child died after an Israeli drone strike took place alongside artillery shelling in the area.

The Israeli military said the strike targeted a person it described as a suspect near the Yellow Line. According to the military, the individual approached Israeli troops and entered a building after being seen as an immediate threat.

However, after reviewing the incident, an Israeli army spokesperson said an uninvolved person entered the building and may have been harmed during the strike.

On Monday, medical officials in Gaza also reported the death of 15-year-old Ayham al-Omari. He was allegedly shot in the northern town of Beit Lahiya.

The Israeli military said its soldiers opened fire after identifying a suspect in northern Gaza who they believed posed a threat.

Although the ceasefire has largely paused the broader Gaza war, violence continues across the territory.

Since the truce began, at least 818 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gazaโ€™s health ministry. The United Nations considers the ministryโ€™s figures reliable.
