Three Arrested in Maharashtra for Smuggling 5.6 Kg of Whale Vomit

The Kalyan unit of the Thane crime branch in Maharashtra arrested three individuals for smuggling 5.6 kg of ambergris, commonly known as whale vomit, valued at Rs 6.20 crore. The arrested suspects were identified as Anil Bhosale, Ankush Shankar Mali, and Laxman Shankar Patil.

Authorities had received a tip-off that the accused were transporting ambergris from Pipeline Road to Badlapur in a car. Acting swiftly, the crime branch launched a search operation and apprehended the suspects, resulting in the significant seizure.

Ambergris, a rare substance produced by sperm whales, is highly sought after in the perfume industry for its use in creating luxury fragrances.

The accused are now in police custody as further investigations are underway.
