Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea confirmed that the shooting, which took place around 1 p.m. local time, appears to be targeted, with the gunman possibly selecting the school due to its affiliation with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.

In response to the incident, local officials issued a statewide alert to other Seventh-Day Adventist schools and increased security measures in nearby areas.

Sheriff Honea expressed the community’s shock, stating, “This is a tragic incident that has shaken our community.” Authorities are offering support to affected families and working to ensure school safety moving forward.
