LAHORE โ The Punjab Transport Company (PTC) has launched free Wi-Fi services at several bus stops across Lahore to provide commuters with easy internet access. The initiative is part of the Empower Project, designed to improve digital connectivity for travelers, pedestrians, and daily commuters.
Initially, free Wi-Fi has been made available at 10 key bus stops, including Shaukat Khanum, Township Model Bazaar, MM Alam Road, Karim Block, Hussain Chowk, Thokar Niaz Baig, Barkat Market, Jinnah Hospital, and Wafaqi Colony. Authorities have confirmed that by the end of December, the service will expand to 25 bus stops, with further phases planned to cover more locations in Lahore.
The move complements the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) initiative, which introduced the โCM Maryam Nawaz Free Wi-Fi Serviceโ earlier this year. This service is now active at 442 locations in Lahore, benefiting over 58 million users who have consumed 1,191 terabytes of data to date. On average, around 350,000 users access the internet daily, using approximately 4.5 terabytes of data.
The free Wi-Fi initiative has also been extended to 952 locations across 23 districts, including major cities such as Rawalpindi, Multan, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Muzaffargarh, and Hafizabad. This widespread coverage aims to ensure that more citizens can enjoy seamless connectivity in public areas.
Officials emphasized that the launch of free Wi-Fi at bus stops will enhance the commuting experience, allowing passengers to stay connected, access information, and complete digital tasks while on the move. They also highlighted that the project aligns with Punjabโs broader vision of promoting digital inclusion and bridging the connectivity gap for all citizens.
