Polling for PS-9 Shikarpur By-Election to Be Held Tomorrow

KARACHI: All arrangements have been completed for the by-election in Shikarpur’s provincial constituency PS-9. Polling for PS-9 will take place on Sunday, according to a spokesperson for the Sindh Election Commission.

The by-election will be held on December 14. A total of 277,792 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots. Election officials said voting preparations are in their final stage.

To manage the voting process, the Election Commission has set up 178 polling stations across the constituency. These include 49 polling stations for male voters and 49 for female voters. Another 80 stations will serve both men and women.

Security arrangements have also been finalised. Officials have declared 54 polling stations as extremely sensitive. Another 84 have been marked as sensitive. The remaining 40 polling stations are classified as normal.

The commission said security personnel will be deployed accordingly. Special measures will be in place at sensitive locations to ensure voter safety. Officials aim to maintain a peaceful environment throughout the day.

According to the Election Commission, all election materials are being dispatched. The process is being completed from the Returning Officer’s camp office. Authorities said the delivery will finish by Saturday evening.

Several candidates are contesting the by-election. Among them are Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Agha Shehbaz Durrani. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Maulana Rushdullah is also in the race. In total, eight candidates are competing for the seat.

Provincial Election Commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chohan has issued clear instructions to election staff. He stressed that the process must remain transparent and orderly. He warned that any irregularities or mismanagement would not be tolerated.

Election officials have been directed to follow the code of conduct strictly. Monitoring teams will oversee the process during Polling for PS-9. Complaint cells will also remain active to address voter concerns.

The PS-9 seat fell vacant after the death of Agha Siraj Durrani. He was a senior political figure and a former speaker of the Sindh Assembly. His passing led to the need for a by-election.

Authorities believe Polling for PS-9 will proceed smoothly. Voters have been encouraged to participate in large numbers. The Election Commission says it is committed to ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful vote.
