What’s Happening in Sindh on Dec 25 and 26 Public Holidays Announced

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced additional public holidays for December in connection with Christmas and Quaid-e-Azam Day. The decision aims to recognize religious observances while ensuring clarity for offices and institutions across the province.

According to an official notification, December 26, 2025, has been declared a public holiday exclusively for the Christian community. The holiday has been announced to allow Christian employees to observe Christmas-related activities and traditions. Authorities said the move reflects the government’s commitment to inclusivity and respect for religious diversity.

The notification was issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department. It stated that all government, autonomous, and semi-autonomous bodies under Sindh’s administrative control will remain closed on December 26. This also includes corporations and local councils operating within the province.

However, the closure will not apply to departments providing essential services. Offices linked to healthcare, emergency response, sanitation, and law enforcement will continue to function as usual. Officials emphasized that public convenience and safety will remain a priority during the holiday period.

Separately, the Sindh government has also confirmed December 25 as a province-wide public holiday. This day marks Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas. The holiday will be observed by all government and semi-government offices, corporations, and local councils across Sindh.

December 25 holds dual importance in Pakistan. It commemorates the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of the country. At the same time, it is celebrated as Christmas by the Christian community nationwide. The combined observance has long been part of the official holiday calendar.

With back-to-back public holidays on December 25 and 26, many offices in Sindh will remain closed for two consecutive days. Private organizations may follow their own schedules, depending on internal policies. Educational institutions are also expected to announce arrangements separately.

Government officials advised citizens to plan official work accordingly. They urged people to complete urgent tasks in advance to avoid inconvenience. Employees working in essential services were reminded to follow duty rosters issued by their departments.
