LAHORE – Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced a major upgrade to its electricity billing system, introducing smart M2M meters to improve efficiency and transparency. The new system aims to simplify electricity management for both residential and commercial consumers.
LESCO’s Material Management Department recently started procuring M2M SIMs, enabling real-time communication between consumer meters and the control center. This advancement allows online meter readings, eliminating the need for manual inspections and reducing errors in billing.
The smart meters also provide faster action against non-paying consumers. Connections can now be disconnected instantly if bills are overdue, while electricity can be restored online once payments are made. LESCO says this will remove bureaucratic delays and improve overall service quality.
In addition to smart meters, LESCO has launched an online application system for new electricity connections. Consumers can now submit applications via upload required documents, and complete the process digitally, making it faster and more convenient.
The standard cost for a single-phase connection is around Rs7,240, though prices in some areas of Lahore can rise to Rs18,000–Rs25,000 during winter months. Charges vary by district and may increase in the summer due to higher demand.
LESCO officials say the adoption of smart M2M meters reflects the company’s commitment to digital transformation. The new system is expected to bring transparency, efficiency, and greater convenience to consumers, while reducing workload for LESCO staff.
