The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has released Rs4 billion to support residents affected by the Tirah displacement. The funds aim to assist temporary relocation ahead of a planned security operation against militants in the Tirah Valley, Khyber district.
According to an official letter from the Finance Department, the funds are part of the FATA Disaster Management Authority grant for the 2025โ26 financial year. The money will be used for ongoing activities related to the depopulation of Tirah and other operational preparations (TOPs).
The letter clarified that the funds will remain in the Special Deposit Funds Account of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) under the Public Account. They will not be transferred to commercial or designated bank accounts. All regulatory requirements must be fulfilled before the money is spent.
Tirah Valley residents began temporary displacement last Friday following an agreement between the district administration and a 24-member tribal committee of elders. Negotiations were held last month to address the committeeโs 27 demands, with most accepted and others approved with amendments.
Registration of displaced families is currently underway at Paindai Cheena. The district administration is facilitating the affected population, and NADRA verification is being completed to issue mobile SIM cards to displaced persons. Immediate relief includes Rs22,000 per vehicle for affected families.
Tirah Valley, located along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and spanning parts of Khyber and Orakzai districts, has seen a resurgence of militancy in recent months. Authorities emphasize that the Tirah displacement is a temporary measure to ensure civilian safety during security operations.
The government has assured that all support services and financial assistance will continue until residents can safely return to their homes. Officials also highlighted that the funds will be strictly monitored for transparency and proper utilization.
