The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has decided to expand its Panic Buttons project to strengthen security for Chinese nationals living and working across the province. The initiative aims to improve emergency response and enhance coordination among law enforcement agencies.
According to officials, the expanded system will introduce modern emergency alert technology at Chinese residential compounds and project sites. The move is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety measures for foreign nationals involved in development projects across Punjab.
Under the project, Panic Buttons will be installed at residences and workplaces used by Chinese citizens. The devices will allow occupants to send an instant emergency alert to the relevant authorities whenever they face a security threat or urgent situation.
Officials said the technology is designed to reduce response times during emergencies. Faster communication between those on-site and security agencies is expected to improve the effectiveness of emergency operations.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority believes the upgraded system will strengthen coordination between different law enforcement departments. Quick alerts will allow authorities to respond more efficiently to incidents requiring immediate attention.
As part of the expansion plan, the Special Protection Unit (SPU) will also receive Panic Buttons technology. The SPU is responsible for providing dedicated security to Chinese nationals working on various projects throughout Punjab.
Authorities said equipping the SPU with the latest emergency alert tools will improve its operational capabilities. Security personnel will be able to receive emergency notifications more quickly and coordinate responses with other agencies.
During the first phase of the project, more than 200 Chinese-related installations in Lahore will receive QR code-enabled panic buttons. These locations include residential compounds as well as work sites connected to Chinese personnel.
Officials explained that the QR code-enabled system will help identify the exact location of an emergency. This feature will enable security teams to reach affected areas without unnecessary delays.
The expansion is part of broader efforts to strengthen security arrangements for Chinese citizens residing in Pakistan. Chinese nationals are involved in several major infrastructure and development projects across Punjab.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority said work is already underway to further improve the emergency response system. Authorities plan to continue upgrading security technology to meet evolving safety requirements.
Officials added that protecting foreign nationals remains a key priority for the provincial government. Modern technology plays an important role in improving public safety and supporting law enforcement operations.
The Panic Buttons project reflects Punjab’s commitment to enhancing security through advanced digital solutions. By combining emergency alert technology with faster police coordination, authorities aim to create a more secure environment for Chinese residents and strategic project sites.
