Punjab Introduces Junior Traffic Warden Posts for First Time - Check Details

The Punjab Traffic Police has announced the introduction of the Junior Traffic Warden post for the first time. The new position is expected to create a clear promotion pathway for traffic personnel across the province.

According to a department spokesperson, City Traffic Police units in major cities previously did not have the Junior Traffic Warden rank. The new initiative aims to strengthen the traffic management system while offering better career opportunities for serving officers.

The department will appoint Junior Traffic Warden officers in several major cities. These include Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, and Sialkot.

To support the new appointments, the Punjab Traffic Police has selected 164 Senior Traffic Assistants (STAs) for specialized training. The officers have been sent to the Police Training College in Sihala, where they will receive professional instruction before assuming their new responsibilities.

After successfully completing the training program, the officers will be promoted from Grade 9 to Grade 11. They will then officially serve as Junior Traffic Wardens in their respective cities.

Officials said this is the first time Senior Traffic Assistants have been provided with this level of professional training under the traffic warden system. The move is intended to improve both career development and operational efficiency within the department.

Head of Traffic Punjab Hammad Waqas Nazir said the creation of the new posts would strengthen the organizational structure of the Punjab Traffic Police. He added that better-trained officers would help improve traffic regulation and law enforcement across the province.

He explained that the initiative is designed to enhance the department’s ability to manage growing traffic challenges in urban areas. Well-trained personnel are expected to improve road safety and provide better public services.

Hammad Waqas Nazir also emphasized that promotions within the department will continue to be based on merit and seniority. He said the policy reflects the vision of the Inspector General of Police to encourage professionalism and fairness.

According to the traffic chief, every officer deserves equal opportunities for career growth through transparent promotion policies. He added that continuous training is essential for building a skilled and efficient police force.

The department believes that introducing the Junior Traffic Warden rank will motivate officers to improve their professional performance. It is also expected to strengthen leadership at different levels of the traffic police system.

Punjab has recently introduced several reforms aimed at improving public services and law enforcement. The addition of the new rank is part of broader efforts to modernize the traffic police and increase operational capacity.

Officials hope the initiative will enhance traffic enforcement, reduce congestion, and improve road discipline across Punjab’s major cities. The department also plans to continue investing in professional development programs to build a stronger and more capable workforce.
