Karachi Police have detained 180 individuals across various city districts under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law. Officials confirmed that all 180 individuals will remain in custody for 30 days.
The highest number of detainees, 51 individuals, were taken into custody from the East Zone. In the West Zone, 30 individuals were arrested, while the Central District saw 24 people detained. Other areas included Keamari with 23 arrests, Korangi with 22, the South District with 10, Malir with nine, and the City District with 11 detainees.
Police emphasized that the preventive action was necessary to ensure public safety and prevent disruption. Authorities warned that some individuals could potentially block roads, stage sit-ins, or disturb peace, posing risks to both life and property.
The Sindh Home Department issued a formal notification endorsing the detentions. The notification directed law enforcement agencies to arrest all listed individuals and transfer them to Malir Jail for the full period of their detention.
Authorities highlighted that the preventive measure involving the 180 individuals is part of broader efforts to maintain peace and stability in Karachi. Police remain vigilant across the city to respond quickly to any potential disturbances.
Karachi Police also noted that the arrests are not meant to target anyone unfairly but to proactively prevent incidents that could escalate into violence or public disorder. The authorities stressed that public cooperation is essential to ensure law and order during this period.
This action marks one of the largest preventive detentions in recent weeks, with officials stating that monitoring and patrolling will continue across high-risk areas. Citizens have been urged to avoid areas where gatherings or protests could occur.
By taking preventive measures and detaining 180 individuals, law enforcement agencies aim to secure public safety and ensure uninterrupted daily life in Karachi. Authorities assured the public that all actions are in accordance with legal procedures under the MPO law.
