LARKANA: Sindhโs Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah received World Bank President Ajay Banga at Mohen Jo Daro airport on Wednesday. The World Bank chief arrived with a 10-member delegation.
Ajay Banga expressed his personal connection to Pakistan, noting that his family lived in the country before partition. โI wished to arrive here, which has now been fulfilled,โ he said.
The World Bank chief praised Sindhโs efforts in rehabilitating flood-affected families and providing home ownership rights to women. โThe family will stand on its feet when a woman is empowered,โ he said. He added that residential construction projects are also creating employment opportunities. Banga promised to support clean water supply for flood victims.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah highlighted Sindhโs flood challenges, particularly during the 2010 and 2022 disasters. โFlood victims approached Bilawal Bhutto about homelessness, and he promised homes for 20 million affected families,โ Shah said.
The CM explained that constructing 20 million housing units required Rs 600 billion, a sum not available to either the Sindh or federal government. He acknowledged the World Bankโs support, which enabled the launch of the massive housing project in Sindh.
โSo far, nine lakh homes have been completed, and the remaining units are expected to be finished by the end of this year,โ Murad Ali Shah added.
The project reflects Sindhโs ongoing commitment to flood rehabilitation, women empowerment, and job creation. Officials said the collaboration with the World Bank will continue to support the provinceโs recovery efforts and ensure long-term resilience.
