Kuwait has announced a two-day public holiday for government institutions to mark two major national events. These include the 65th National Day and the 35th Liberation Day.
The decision was made during the weekly Cabinet meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al Abdullah Al Sabah.
According to the official statement, all ministries and public institutions will remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday, February 25 and 26. Normal working hours will resume on Sunday, March 1.
Since the holiday falls close to the weekend, most public sector employees will enjoy a four-day break. This move allows workers to take part in national celebrations and spend time with their families.
However, authorities clarified that some institutions may follow different schedules. These include departments that provide essential services. Such entities will manage their own staffing plans. This ensures that public needs continue to be met during the holiday period.
In another important development, Kuwait has introduced changes to residency procedures. These changes affect expatriates who have family links with Kuwaiti citizens.
The Ministry of Interior announced the update through the General Directorate of Residency Affairs. The goal is to create a clearer and more consistent system.
Under the new rules, spouses and children of expatriates will now fall under Article 22 of the residency law. They must meet all existing conditions and eligibility standards. This replaces older practices that varied between cases.
Officials said the new system will reduce confusion. It will also ensure that all applications are processed fairly.
At the same time, special rules apply to family members of Kuwaiti nationals. Wives of Kuwaiti men and husbands of Kuwaiti women are now classified under Article 26.
Both groups will pay an annual residency fee of 15 Kuwaiti dinars per case. The fee applies equally, regardless of gender.
Authorities explained that the updated fee structure promotes equality. It also simplifies the overall process.
These changes reflect Kuwaitโs efforts to modernize administrative systems. The government aims to improve efficiency while maintaining strict legal standards.
