In a major update on the fatal street racing accident at Khayaban-e-Ittehad in Karachi, Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar denies any connection to the incident. The accident involved a speeding car that struck a food delivery rider, leaving him critically injured and later deceased.
Police earlier stated that the person taken into custody was identified as Asghar Ali Bangwar. During questioning, the detained individual reportedly claimed to be Hazim Bangwar’s nephew. However, Hazim Bangwar has firmly denies these claims, clarifying that neither his brother nor sister is married.
He told reporters, “This could be any Bangwar, or someone attempting to create a name association. I only wanted to make it clear that I have no connection with the individual.” The statement comes amid widespread confusion about the identity of the accused.
The accident occurred during a late-night street race in Defence, Karachi. Witnesses said the car lost control and initially fled the scene after a brief, deceptive display of help. Police conducted a manhunt to track down the suspects involved.
Authorities reported that the deceased rider’s family forgave the accused in the name of God. The underage driver was released without any formal settlement or written agreement, and police did not register a case on behalf of the state.
Concerns have also been raised regarding the detention of Asghar Bangwar. Reports allege that authorities concealed his custody for nearly 16 hours before disclosure, fueling further questions about the investigation process.
With the Assistant Commissioner publicly denies any familial connection, officials aim to clarify misinformation circulating on social media and news platforms. Police continue to investigate the case to establish responsibility for the fatal accident.
The tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about illegal street racing in Karachi and the risks it poses to public safety. Authorities have urged residents to report reckless driving and cooperate with investigations.
