Maryam Nawaz Approves ‘One Punjab, One Standard’ Policy

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has approved a new policy called “One Punjab, One Standard.” Officials describe it as the first province-wide move to implement uniform standards for public infrastructure and civic design.

The decision came during a special meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz. Officials discussed creating an autonomous authority to supervise urban design and standardisation. An in-principle agreement was reached to establish a dedicated standardisation and design unit.

CM Maryam Nawaz directed the preparation of a comprehensive standardised design manual. The meeting also focused on setting uniform designs for roadside kiosks, small shop cabins, and other street structures.

The policy ensures that roads, green belts, signboards, and footpaths across Punjab follow consistent standards. Officials briefed that standard designs would also be applied to schools, hospitals, bus stops, and other public buildings. This step aims to improve both safety and visual appeal in cities.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the government wants every city in Punjab to be attractive and well-planned. She noted that uniform infrastructure and road furniture help create a distinct identity for urban centres.

During her visit to Murree, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif stopped at a roadside tea stall on the Murree Expressway. She personally prepared tea for the stall, a gesture that quickly went viral on social media. Observers said the act highlighted her connection with ordinary citizens while reinforcing her policy goals for accessible and citizen-friendly infrastructure.

The “One Punjab, One Standard” initiative marks a significant step in modernizing Punjab’s urban landscape. Officials believe that this approach will set a benchmark for other provinces in Pakistan. Uniform design standards are expected to improve city planning, enhance public spaces, and create visually appealing streetscapes.

With this new policy, Punjab aims to combine functionality with aesthetics, ensuring all public spaces are safe, organized, and attractive. Experts say consistent standards can reduce maintenance costs and create a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
