Pakistan is preparing to hold its long-awaited 5G Spectrum auction as part of a major step toward faster digital connectivity. The auction is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the federal capital.
Officials say the 5G Spectrum auction aims to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy and improve internet services nationwide. The government believes advanced connectivity will support businesses, students, and freelancers across the country.
After years of planning, Pakistan is moving closer to launching next-generation mobile technology. The upcoming 5G Spectrum auction marks an important stage in introducing faster internet services and advanced digital tools.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the main goal is not just revenue generation. According to him, the government wants to develop strong digital infrastructure for long-term economic growth.
Tarar explained that building digital highways and corridors will help improve connectivity across Pakistan. Better internet services can allow freelancers, startups, and young professionals to compete globally.
Officials believe strong digital networks will also support innovation and technological development. Improved connectivity is expected to benefit education, business, and online services.
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima described the 5G Spectrum as a valuable national resource. She said the government wants long-term benefits rather than short-term financial gains.
Using a simple analogy, she said the 5G Spectrum is like a “hen that lays golden eggs.” She explained that careful planning can bring continuous economic benefits for the country.
According to government officials, international consultants helped determine the spectrum pricing. The process follows global standards to ensure transparency and fairness.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman expressed confidence about the auction. He said more than 300 MHz of spectrum is expected to be offered during the auction.
If a significant portion of the spectrum is sold, officials believe the auction will be successful. The available spectrum will help improve existing 4G services while enabling 5G rollout.
Authorities said telecom companies tested the auction system in advance. Operators participated in trial sessions to ensure the process runs smoothly.
The PTA also plans to improve network coverage across the country. Telecom operators will be required to install at least 200 towers each year in underserved areas.
Officials confirmed that the introduction of 5G Spectrum services will not increase mobile package prices. The government aims to keep internet services affordable for consumers.
