The government of Pakistan has announced several emergency measures to manage economic pressure caused by rising global oil prices. One of the key steps includes introducing a Work-From-Home policy for certain government offices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation and warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is creating serious challenges for the global economy. He said rising oil prices could significantly impact Pakistan’s financial stability.
According to the prime minister, crude oil prices have crossed $100 per barrel in international markets. If the conflict continues, prices may rise further in the coming weeks.
To reduce fuel consumption and government expenses, the administration has introduced a Work-From-Home policy for several departments. Officials believe the Work-From-Home arrangement will help reduce travel, fuel use, and operational costs.
The prime minister explained that Pakistan relies heavily on imported oil from Gulf countries. Because of this dependence, the country has little control over global energy prices.
Shehbaz Sharif also announced austerity measures for government officials and political leaders. Cabinet members and federal ministers will not receive salaries for the next two months.
In addition, salaries of Members of the National Assembly and senators will be reduced by 25 percent. These measures are intended to demonstrate solidarity with citizens during economic challenges.
The government believes that the Work-From-Home policy can help save fuel and reduce traffic pressure in major cities. Reduced commuting may also lower overall energy consumption.
During his speech, the prime minister expressed concern about the growing conflict in the Middle East. He said the situation is affecting global peace and economic stability.
Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned recent attacks reported in the region. He also expressed condolences over the deaths of civilians during the conflict.
The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan supports diplomatic solutions and peaceful dialogue to resolve regional tensions. He said Pakistan stands with friendly countries facing difficulties during the crisis.
Officials say the new Work-From-Home policy and austerity measures will remain in place until the situation stabilizes. The government will continue monitoring global oil prices and economic conditions.
