Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said that former prime minister Imran Khan’s sons can visit the country using their NICOP cards. He clarified that no visa is required for their travel, as they are recognized as Pakistani citizens.
Tarar made the statement while responding to concerns raised by Jemima Goldsmith, Imran Khan’s former spouse. She had urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow her sons, Kasim and Sulaiman, to visit their father. The request came amid reports about Imran Khan’s health condition in custody.
According to Tarar, both sons hold valid NICOP documents. This allows them to enter Pakistan without applying for a visa. He emphasized that the NICOP system is specifically designed for overseas Pakistanis. It provides them with rights similar to citizens living in the country.
The minister also stated that Imran Khan’s sons would be allowed to meet their father. He added that a phone call between Imran Khan and his children will be arranged on Eid, as done previously. This assurance aims to address family concerns during the ongoing situation.
Tarar further said that while the sons are welcome, they must follow Pakistani laws during their stay. He stressed that all visitors entering through NICOP must comply with national regulations. This applies equally to all overseas Pakistanis visiting the country.
Earlier, Jemima Goldsmith had shared on social media that her sons applied for visas in January. She noted that the process usually takes 7 to 10 working days. However, she claimed that more than 60 days had passed without any response.
She also mentioned that officials had previously assured safe travel for the two sons. Despite this, the delay in visa processing raised concerns for the family. Tarar’s statement now clarifies that a visa is not required if they use their NICOP cards.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s health has been under discussion. His lawyer told the Supreme Court that he had experienced vision problems in one eye. However, a medical board later reported improvement after treatment.
