Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Karachi faced disruption as rain hit several parts of the city on the first day of the festival. Thunder and lightning accompanied the downpours, affecting both coastal and inland areas.
Heavy rain was reported in Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Johar. Strong winds and rainfall also affected Scheme 33, Safoora Chowrangi, Sohrab Goth, and surrounding neighborhoods. North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, North Karachi, Buffer Zone, Guru Mandir, Lasbela, Liaquatabad, and Nazimabad also received rain.
Coastal areas, including Sea View and Clifton, experienced showers as well. Due to rain, authorities in several localities shifted Eid-ul-Fitr congregations from open grounds to mosques. Water accumulated in Eidgahs, parks, and other open spaces, forcing worshippers to adapt to indoor arrangements.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued thunderstorms in the city. Officials said the heat intensity is expected to decrease due to rain, with the maximum temperature reaching 31 degrees Celsius today.
โRain will continue intermittently until tonight,โ the PMD said. Residents are advised to remain cautious while traveling and attending outdoor gatherings.
Skies are likely to remain cloudy on the second and third days of Eid-ul-Fitr. Authorities have urged people to monitor weather updates before planning visits to open areas or coastal locations.
Despite the rain, people continued to celebrate Eid, offering prayers and visiting family members. The showers provided relief from the recent heat but caused minor inconveniences for large congregations and outdoor celebrations.
